Why I believe in AA

Updated: Mar 22, 2020

HI, my name is Rick, and I am a success seeker. Hi RickšŸ˜Š.

Success is more than an outcome. While outcome is critical, the process of achieving it is the greater determinant of sustainability. And that leads me to AA. My AA is ATTITUDE + ACTION = SUCCESSFUL OUTCOME.

One without the other is a recipe we see all around us. Put a great attitude on a procrastinator and what do you get? Rick the day dreamer who never achieved anything of value. Take a type A, action oriented, Rick with a lousy attitude and you get: sarcastic Rick who disrupts every conversation.

Attitude is how you view the world and how you react to life. Live long enough and you will experience the full circle of emotions. Ā The highs are higher and the lows are deeper than you expect. Life and God are no respecter of individuals. We all get our share. Attitude is really the difference maker in your lifeā€™s trajectory. You get to choose the way you respond to events, peoples, and circumstances. Eeyore or Tigger. You choose. And the best line that illustrates this point is from John Wooden, ā€œ Things turn our best for the people who make the best of how things turn out.ā€ Wish I had thought of that line! Glad he shared it though!

While Attitude determines your trajectory, Action determines the speed. Put them together, and you get a sort of success torque. Combine a great attitude with an action mindset, and itā€™s like running the Pikeā€™s Peak ascent with an oxygen tank. When your journey takes you above the proverbial tree line to rocky area close to the top, you are going to need both to finish.

So how do you add AA to your journey? Like the other AA, I believe you start by recognizing that you canā€™t do this on your own and seek some higher powerā€™s help. For me, that means my Outback Menā€™s group, my friend Chris, and early morning prayer and uplifting devotional reading. These get my Attitude ā€œAā€ back on track. Combining that with some daily goal setting, planning tomorrow at the end of each day, and Sunday calendar planning keeps me in gear.

And the most important of all these is not mentioned yet: Consistency. Whatever works for you will work only as long as you work it. So pick a few and get started on your road to a SUCCESSFUL OUTCOME.

Next week we will dive a little deeper into Attitude.

The best is ahead.
