The irony of thin skinned. The older you get, the more experienced and wiser you become. This is evident by how you handle conflict. Do personal attacks or criticisms trigger you or do you let them roll off your back? The former is referred to as ‘thin skinned’ and the latter as ‘thick skinned.’ As my attitude has become thicker, I have noticed a troubling dilemma: My skin is becoming thinner.
Every time I bump into something with my hand or inadvertently scratch my face, I now discover black and blue spots or small cuts. My left-hand today is exhibiting both. And it pisses me off and makes me laugh at the same time.
Life is full of ying yang’s. You gain knowledge is sports but lose the ability to execute. You gain wisdom at your profession only to see it duplicated by a LLM that cost the organization a fraction of yourself. You learn how to communicate and understand your spouse only to start losing your hearing. You get my drift.
Aging is inevitable and wisdom is optional. So focus on what you can control, seeking to be the best wisest, empathetic you can become and learn to laugh at the things that you can’t control, like thin skin. And buy some hearing aids
